Program Overview
The Sustainable Practice Effort Program promotes sustainable living concepts through real-life examples in Kampong Teripang, while highlighting the geography of Bintan and the local way of life. Students learn how natural ecosystems, coastal resources, and community livelihoods are connected, and how sustainability efforts can support both the environment and society.
This program introduces students to community-based sustainability initiatives and shows how local actions can contribute to long-term environmental protection in Bintan.

Kampong Teripang Walk Tour
Overview
Students are introduced to Kampong Teripang as a community pioneer in promoting sustainable practices in Bintan.
Activities
- Learn about Bintan’s geographical setting as a maritime regency
- Explore what Bintan is known for, including natural ecosystems and coastal environments
- Learn about local livelihoods and sources of income in coastal communities
- Receive an overview of the vision, mission, and values of Kampong Teripang
- Learn about sustainability efforts carried out by Kampong Teripang, including sustainable farming and seagrass conservation initiatives
Collagen Factory Tour (Sea Cucumber Processing)
Overview
Students learn how sea cucumbers are processed into beneficial products for society through responsible and sustainable practices.
Activities
- Tour the processing facility to understand how sea cucumbers are transformed into useful products
- Learn about hydrolyzed protein, collagen, and other derivative products
- Understand the value chain from marine resources to community products
Gamat (Golden Sea Cucumber) Product Experience
Overview
Students experience Kampong Teripang’s sea cucumber-based products and learn about their uses.
Activities
- Visit the Kampong Teripang product store (Housome store)
- Learn about various products made from golden sea cucumber
- Take a short break to enjoy a drink made from sea cucumber extract
Seagrass Conservation Effort
Overview
Students learn the ecological relationship between sea cucumbers and seagrass ecosystems and how conservation efforts of this ecosystem support marine health.
Activities
- Learn about the relationship between sea cucumbers and seagrass ecosystems
- Join a seagrass cultivation tour
- Participate in seagrass planting activities when conditions allow
